  • The benefits of the survey are:

  • Results will be an internal tool for Risk Managers to convey ideas and/or to promote actions. It provides members with a clear view on risk and insurance management not only in their own country, but also to benchmark themselves against other countries.

    Vlerick School of Business, Brussels

The BELRIM Scientific Committee was launched in September 2013 by Catherine Van Cauwelaert, Michelle Devlieger, Marc Rombouts, Gil Delcour and Ann De Wilde. All important players in the academic field of risk management were personally approached and reacted favourably to a partnership with BELRIM.

BELRIM firmly believes in the need to promote risk management courses and studies throughout the country and to raise/develop risk management awareness with young professionals and students.

A kick-off meeting will be held at Vlerick School of Business in Brussels. It will allow the board members and the academics to exchange their points of view and expectations.

The biannual BELRIM Prize will also be put in the spotlights as an extra attraction for the younger generations to join the profession.

Keep an eye on our website for future information.

    Bribery & Corruption

    belrim-bribery-corruption22 May 2014, 2 pm
    Liedekerke, Brussels

Managing Bribery and Corruption Risk – from Policy to Practice
Is the UK Anti-Bribery Act and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act applicable to your company?
What are the potential consequences of not being compliant?
Who will have to pay fines and who will be sentenced to jail?
At this BELRIM Exchange, a panel of international experts will share their views on how companies can improve compliance with international and domestic anti-corruption measures and deal with the extraterritorial reach of various anti-bribery and corruption legislation such as the UK Anti-Bribery Act and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Leading practitioners will discuss a range of practical solutions that can be put in place for these purposes. We will tackle this topic from both an international policy and legal perspective, but will also pay close attention to the practical aspects of day-to-day compliance, investigation and enforcement.

Postponed due to Football – General Assembly cannot compete with Red Devils

    18 September 2014

Our General Assembly, which was initially to take place on 17 June, is postponed to 18 September 2014. Although the BELRIM activities attract a lot of participants and attention, we are aware of the fact that we can in no way compete with the Red Devils during the World Cup Football who have planned their matches without consulting us.
Please forgive us for the possible inconvenience this change in programme may cause. We wish you pleasant football nights and hope you will support the best team… and we count on your presence for our General Assembly in September!

Cloud Computing – Revolution or Nightmare?

    belrim-cloud-computing20 March 2014
    Fluxys, Brussels

On March 20th, 2014 in the afternoon BELRIM organized an exchange about cloud computing. This event was organized by Sabine Desantoine (ING) and Jan Ravyts (Fluxys) in the Fluxys premises downtown Brussels.
The theme of the exchange was attractive as more than 70 participants were present.
Specialist speakers from Microsoft Belgium, DLA Piper law firm, PWC, KBC and Belgacom shared their knowledge and expertise for risk managers and BELRIM members.

The first part of the exchange dealt with the question “What’s cloud computing?” (E. Pelemans & B.Schroder from Microsoft Belgium) and then explanations were given on the legal aspects of the matter (Belgian and European legislation, contractual points of attention) by A.Dierick from DLA Piper.

After the break, participants could learn how to manage the cloud computing process once the decision has been taken to go with the cloud and which form of cloud is best suited for the needs of their companies (Ch.Kappler – PWC). KBC (F.Demonie) shared its

experience in deciding for and using the cloud.

Cloud evangelist P. D’Haens from Belgacom finally spoke about the confidentiality of the data.
The exchange closed with a Q&A panel with all speakers followed by a much appreciated cocktail. The board wishes to thank Fluxys for their hospitality.

Most of the presentation slides are available for BELRIM members on the website.
Pictures of this event are available on www.belrim.com/galleries/cloud-computing/

American Appraisal BeneluxJordy is a manager in the valuation- and transaction services practice of American Appraisal Benelux.
He says: “American Appraisal is with 60 offices worldwide more than ‘American’ and though we are the market leader in valuations we are more than ‘Appraisal’. We provide valuations for insurance purposes, but as well for tax, accounting, compliance and litigations. On top of that we have a broad scope in M&A and corporate finance services.

Since the foundation of our Benelux office 5 years ago we now serve many of the Dutch multinationals, the Dutch government and SMEs with a local and international footprint. With our membership at the Belrim we – likewise – hope to build up a strong reputation and business relationships in the Belgium and Luxembourg market too.

I myself started at American Appraisal four years ago after working for several years as an engineer in the process, maritime and maintenance industry. I predominantly focus on valuation services for all kinds of purposes and technical aspects in transactions e.g. technical due diligence. Off course due to my background I have a slight preference for process and asset heavy companies.

I am looking forward to the first meeting of the Belrim and meeting you in person.
